Meeting with DCAF
On April 11, 2018, JCI visited the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) at the invitation of its Director. This visit was aimed at learning more about the actions of the two structures and to identify possible areas for collaboration.
The morning was dedicated to introducing JCI and its actions, and the afternoon to presenting DCAF, as well as searching for convergences.
Discussions were held with various DCAF divisions including SSAD (Sub-Saharan Africa), the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) division, the ISSAT division with which JCI already collaborates in two Security System Reform (SSR) projects, the MENA division with identified areas of collaboration, and the Gender and Security (GSD) division, whose gender and justice approach could be valuable to JCI (NB: partnership with this division is already in place on a project in Ukraine to strengthen justice).
A JCI/DCAF association could be considered as part of projects related to justice reform, the effectiveness of the criminal justice chain or the training of justice professionals.
The presentation of the Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia Division (EECA Division) provided an opportunity to discuss, in addition to Ukraine, collaboration in Georgia where JCI is already present.
It was a fruitful day, full of prospects for high-quality collaboration.
