Nine senior officers of the Algerian penitentiary administration have participated to a study visit in France in July 2017 in the framework of the twinning between Algeria and European union for the improvement of detention conditions and detainee’s reintegration.

The agenda included visits to the Penitentiary Reintegration and Probation Services (SPIP in French), Parisian penal institutions (Detention centre of Fleury-Mérogis, Central prison of Poissy) and an institutional meeting with the French Direction of penitentiary administration services.

This study visit, focused to the fight against recidivism and the reintegration mission, aims to provide the nine senior penitentiary officers with a better knowledge of the SPIP’s role in France, both in open and closed institutions, the responsibility of taking charge of people assigned to the penitentiary administration according to their profiles, and also the role of the Judge responsible for the execution of sentences, in order to elaborate individual plans for reintegration.
