Training for civil society

Publé le 27 June 2019

From 20 to 26 May 2019, training sessions for civil society organizations were held in Nouakchott and Kaedi over two and three days.

In partnership with ND Consultance, various members selected by their organizations were trained in the international definition of torture and the methodology for documenting human rights. Following international normative frameworks for definitions of torture and cruel and degrading treatment, a total of 35 participants out of the two sessions practiced writing reports of alleged cases of torture. This training, which is shared by several organizations, has made it possible to create a space for the exchange of experiences, good practices and constructive criticism of the phenomenon of torture and its treatment by civil society organizations.

Four of the participants will benefit in the coming months from a study visit to France to meet with various international civil society organizations working on Mauritania in order to prepare for the Universal Periodic Review of Mauritania in 2020.
