Ukraine – Government reform carries on attracting European experts

« Ukraine needs more than ever the help of its European partners. The most important for us is to get European experience and advice »- said Ruslan Ryaboshapka, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, during a meeting with experts from the EU Project  » Support to the reform of the justice sector in Ukraine ».

The meeting discussed the technical assistance in the framework of the project and the input of experts in the fields of judicial reform, criminal justice, anti-corruption system, penal law, and legal aid providing.

Mr Ruslan Ryaboshapka informed the participants about the draft amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which will allow to implement the international standards of justice. For this purpose, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has set up a temporary special commission.

Also was discussed the drafting of a new law on the prevention of corruption, which will determine the mechanisms preventing the adoption of decisions by officials with regard to their private interests.

Ruslan Ryaboshapka informed the experts of the creation by the Ministry of Justice of committee that will carry out the inspection of penal institutions on compliance with the recommendations of the European Committee against Torture.

« All areas and priorities of the Ministry of Justice have been outlined. We have created a working group on public involvement in working out and follow up the implementation of these priorities. So we only welcome European expertise in these working groups and encourage active participation in their activities « , – said Ruslan Ryaboshapka.

« We are willing to be members of your team and to provide you with necessary assistance. This will be a beneficial cooperation for both sides « , – said Adrien Elbe, manager of the EU Project » Support to the reform of the justice sector in Ukraine ».

The next steps of project implementation were discussed during the meeting, including the establishment of a Steering Committee, which will monitor the achievement of the planned results.
